Points to Note (If any):

Please do note that the below points are shared with you for your reference only. Please use them at your own discretion.

Your Health: It is your (Traveller’s) responsibility is to ensure that you are in good health and medically fit to undertake safari tour. If the tour passes through the malaria area, precautionary treatment is advised. Consultation with medical practitioner/doctor and obtaining prophylactic and precautionary anti-malaria treatment is necessary.

Local Currency: Zimbabwe’s economic situation remains unpredictable. Whilst the primary legal tender in Zimbabwe is the Zimbabwe dollar (ZWL), it is currently possible for tourists to transact using the US Dollar at the official exchange rate. There are some bureaux de change which will accept and change foreign currency, particularly US dollars. The exchange rate is currently unpredictable.

Prices and transactions will mainly be in Zimbabwean dollars but US dollars are widely accepted. You should check before making a transaction whether the price quoted is in Zimbabwean or US dollars as the symbol for both is $. It is recommended to check exchange rates prior to any transaction. You should check in advance what payment methods a restaurant, hotel or tour operator will accept. Some businesses, including some medical providers, may not accept payment by credit or debit card.

Zimbabwe is currently experiencing a shortage of cash. Cash withdrawals can be made at some ATMs and bank branches with an international bank card but availability cannot always be guaranteed. Credit and debit cards are increasingly being used for transactions. You should always ensure that you are being charged in the correct currency. There are also some challenges with international transfers from outside of Zimbabwe.

Helpful items for your packing list:

  • Clothes (including Spring/Autumn jacket for cooler evenings, especially during months of May-August, when temperature can drop near zero degrees at night)
  • Comfortable shoes (including hiking shoes)
  • Sun glasses
  • Sun-screen lotion
  • Binoculars
  • Camera
  • Personal medicaments with proper prescription
  • Sun hat
  • Torch or Headlamp

Photography: Due to nature of the safari tour, rugged terrain and extremely dusty conditions, we would like to urge to carefully pack all sensitive photographic, electronic and filming equipment, preferably in the dust-proof bags.

People: Zimbabwe is a multi-ethnic country. With Shona being the biggest constituency in the country followed by the Ndebele people. The Shona people are found in every part of the country whereas the other ethnicities are not really dominant in every city.

Although Zimbabwe is a very safe country for travellers. Zimbabweans by nature are very welcoming and friendly to foreigners, and the tough economic situation has not significantly affected the country’s safety for visitors.

Climate: Zimbabwe enjoys a lovely temperate climate, meaning it’s warm and sunny and not too hot. We have two main seasons, the rainy season that stars from November to May and the dry season from June to October. Visitors are always commenting on the good weather.

November is a highly variable month. Sometimes the hot, dry weather will continue, at other times the sky will fill with clouds and threaten to rain, but if you’re lucky enough to witness the first rains of the season, you’ll never forget the drama.

Safety and Security:

Zimbabwe is generally a safe country with a low crime rate in comparison to other countries. Most of the crimes committed are nonviolent in nature, which makes it a safe country.

Staying safe on Wildlife Viewing Activities:

Your safari guide will ensure your safety at all times – listen carefully to instructions and follow the park’s rules at all times. When on a self-drive safari, don’t drive too close to wildlife and only leave your car in designated areas where it is safe to do so.

Staying safe in Cities and Towns:

There is a moderate level of crime in Zimbabwe. People travelling alone may be more vulnerable because mugging, pick pocketing and jewellery theft are common in city centres, especially after 6pm. Street lighting can be poor. Whilst at the Harare International Airport one has to be watchful at all times. Same as when leaving banks and cash points. Don’t carry or display large amounts of cash in public places because that only attracts thieves.

There have been thefts and smash-and-grab robberies from vehicles, including at the main intersections along the route to Harare International Airport and on the Masvingo-Beitbridge road. You should be particularly vigilant when using these routes. Keep vehicle doors locked and windows closed. Be careful at night .Don’t leave your vehicle unattended in unguarded areas in towns.

All travellers travelling to Zimbabwe must check the below website for Covid guidelines and adhere by the rules –

Mandatory Medical /Tests or Vaccination details: The only requirement in Zimbabwe is the PCR test. Everyone entering the country must undergo one. However it looks like in time Covid vaccination cards or Certificates will be mandatory.
