Nyungwe National Park is tucked away in the middle of tea Plantations, the biggest mountain rain forest on this side of the African continent can be a bit deceptive in its vastness if you simply catch a glimpse of it from a far. Nyungwe forest is probably the most preserved forest in Africa. Some say it is the most important site for biodiversity in Rwanda. It is home to over 1000 species of wildlife after all.

The park has amazing and breath-taking scenery and is a vantage point for picturesque views. Nyungwe is nature at its very best. It is lush and beautifully green, often seen with cooling mists in the early mornings and late evening.

The King’s Palace is a beautifully-crafted thatched dwelling shaped like a beehive.

In olden times, Nyanza was the heart of Rwanda. For a long time, the monarchy was mobile, moving the court between various locations. When it eventually settled in one place, Nyanza was the obvious choice. The capital of the kingdom had as many as 2,000 inhabitants, and huts

The royal cattle was the King’s Palace in Nyanza. The cattle keeper calls one of the calves over with his singing and one comes right up to you while he signals and whistles to it. His singing continues for a bit and when he is through, the cow turns around and re-joins the herd. The young and adolescent cows are also present so that you may observe how the horns develop
